Pilates

Pilates - Michelle

Pilates involves movements designed to improve posture and breathing, strength, mobility, flexibility, coordination and overall wellbeing. Pilates engages your mind to improve your understanding of the position and movements of parts of your body.

In order to get the most out of your body, Pilates is based on individual instruction to ensure correct muscle activation and movement patterns. This is not like those big classes at the gym that leave you feeling confused, unloved and a mass of flailing limbs!

Pilates was devised by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s, but as our understanding of the body has advanced, Pilates as an exercise method has been able to evolve beyond the original classical exercises devised by Joseph.

Private sessions are currently available during the day Monday to Saturday. If you're interested in the next Beginning Pilates courses (Saturday mornings starting February 20 or Monday evenings starting March 7), email Paula to register your interest.

Class size is kept small to allow personal attention; extra comfortable Airex mats are provided. Registration is essential.

Class descriptions:

I have had back pain for about ten years and have tried various ways to make it better. Nothing really helped long-term until I discovered Pilates. I have had less pain and am able to enjoy more activities. It is also a great stress relief after a hard day with the kids! I always leave Pilates class feeling relaxed and balanced.
